MALACHI 2:16 CEV
      The LORD God All-Powerful of Israel hates anyone who is cruel enough to divorce his wife. So take care never to be unfaithful!
      
      1.		GOD'S ORIGINAL INTENT FOR MARRIAGE
      
      GENESIS 2:20-24
      20)  And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
      21)  And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
      22)  And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
      23)  And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
      24)  Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
      
      2.		MOSES' TEACHING ON MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE
      
      DEUTERONOMY 24:1-4
      1)  This is what you must do if a husband writes out a certificate of divorce, gives it to his wife, and makes her leave his house. (He divorced her because he found out something indecent about her and she no longer pleased him.)
      2)  She might marry another man after she leaves his house.
      3)  If her second husband doesn't love her and divorces her, or if he dies,
      4)  her first husband is not allowed to marry her again. She has become unclean. This would be disgusting in the LORD'S presence. Don't pollute with sin the land that the LORD your God is giving you as your property.
      
      3.		JESUS' TEACHING ON MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE
      
      MATTHEW 19:1-9 ESV
      1)  Now when Jesus had finished these sayings, he went away from Galilee and entered the region of Judea beyond the Jordan.
      2)  And large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.
      3)  And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful to divorce one's wife for any cause?"
      4)  He answered, "Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female,
      5)  and said, 'Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?
      6)  So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate."
      7)  They said to him, "Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce and to send her away?"
      8)  He said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.
      9)  And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery."
      
      DEUTERONOMY 24:1
      If a man marries a woman who becomes displeasing to him because he finds something indecent about her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house.
      
      MATTHEW 19:3
      And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful to divorce one's wife for any cause?" 
      
      MATTHEW 19:6
      So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.
      
      4.		PAUL'S TEACHING ON MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE
      
      I CORINTHIANS 7:10-15
      10)  I pass this command along (not really I, but the Lord): A wife shouldn't leave her husband.
      11)  If she does, she should stay single or make up with her husband. Likewise, a husband should not divorce his wife.
      12)  I (not the Lord) say to the rest of you: If any Christian man is married to a woman who is an unbeliever, and she is willing to live with him, he should not divorce her.
      13)  If any Christian woman is married to a man who is an unbeliever, and he is willing to live with her, she should not divorce her husband.
      14)  Actually, the unbelieving husband is made holy because of his wife, and an unbelieving wife is made holy because of her husband. Otherwise, their children would be unacceptable to God, but now they are acceptable to him.
      15)  But if the unbelieving partners leave, let them go. Under these circumstances a Christian man or Christian woman is not bound by a marriage vow. God has called you to live in peace.
      
      ISAIAH 50:1
      Thus says the LORD: "Where is your mother's certificate of divorce, with which I sent her away? Or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities you were sold, and for your transgressions your mother was sent away.
      
      SO WHAT?
      To the divorced person we offer acceptance, love, help and healing...
      And a non-condemning, loving environment.
